NOTE: This is issue #098 of my newsletter, which went live on Monday, June 5. If you find this information useful and interesting and you want to receive future issues as they are published, ahead of everyone else, I invite you to join the subscriber list at frontendnexus.com.

In this issue, we celebrate a few important milestones in the history of the web. In Browser News, we start with the usual roundup of what's new on the web platform in May. Chrome 114 and Edge 114 are the stable channel release for those browsers, while Safari Technology Preview 117 brings a long list of fixes and adjustments that will arrive in the next Safari update.

On the Release Radar, we have Bootstrap 5.3.0, several releases from Electron, TypeScript 5.1, Vuetify v3.3.0, and a lot more. We round up this edition with a set of resources, including icons, a monospace font, CSS backgrounds, and many typography utilities.

Celebrations

There are many technologies that have helped shape the web. And now we get to celebrate important milestones for a handful of them.

💻 Browser news

Rachel Andrew is back with another roundup of all the changes that happened to the web platform in May. We got new releases for all main browsers: Firefox 113, Chrome 113, Chrome 114, Edge 113, and Safari 16.5. In terms of features for the web platform, we got the WebGPU and Popover APIs, CSS Nesting, CSS Color Level 4 features, and a lot more.

Chrome

Chrome 114 is the latest stable release for the most popular browser. This update brings the new CSS text-wrap: balance feature, and the new Popover API. There's also a new way to manage cookies using CHIPS: Cookies Having Independent Partitioned State.

Developers can now debug WebAssemble code, or test the Core Web Vitals using Lighthouse 10.1.1. More details are available in the official release notes.

Edge

Edge 114 introduces the new Workspaces. This is a way for customers to organize their browsing tasks into dedicated windows, or share a set of browser tabs across working groups.

WebKit

Safari Technology Preview 171 is now available and brings a long list of fixes, changes, and fine tunings.
